"A Happy Ending"
This afternoon I stopped at the house to pick up the refrigerator kit that I need to take back -- yes, Brian and one other guy were there...and they were just finishing for the day. Brian said they had been there since early and for the amount of work that had to have gone into changing that opening I'd say that were there pretty early.
I must say, I'm pleased. Once again, RBe lives up to their reputation and have 'fixed' the refrigerator problem -- and yes, they removed a portion of the wall -- a good 18 to 20 inches, I'd say.
Here's a view of the arch from the breakfast nook end of the kitchen.
The view from the front door.
While ultimately I imagine we'll be able to see about and inch to an inch and a half of the refrigerator, you won't be able to see it until your well into the dining room so asthetically it's still fine.
Above is the 'wide view' of the room from half of the livingroom window on the left to the edge of the kitchen arch on the right. The overall appearance of the kitchen is definitely larger -- and the overall look of the living space is visually larger. Perhaps that sounds silly in that yes, you can see more of the room(s) so it looks bigger...but the sense of the space is larger. Likewise, the larger arch creates a better flow from the kitchen to the diningroom. I often thought that one wouldn't automatically think of the diningroom as a diningroom due to it's proximity to the kitchen, but now it's even more plausible. Of course, with that said, we're still leaning toward making it the study/library/music room end of the livingroom that can be transformed into a diningroom with the arrangement of a few pieces of furniture.
I'm not asking for a 'move in date' but it seems that we're on target again for our (rescheduled by me...) closing date.

You are absolutely correct in your appraisal of your builder. Our prayers have been answered to keep you from having a "stress attack". Brian is certainly one in a million. The outcome is fantastic and in my humble (me humble?) opinion the whole thing is much improved. Looking forward to seeing everything cleaned up and your things in the house.
